Can you tell us about the inspiration behind starting your shoe brand and the story of how it all began?

The vision for sania d’mina came about when my mother, quite early on, taught me how you can see if a shoe is comfortable or not without even trying them on. Apart from the importance of high-quality materials I have learned that with a centered heel, to optimize balance, and having the front part connected to the ground it stands on, so that the toes get to relax, you basically have the recipe for a comfortable heeled shoe. Our shoes should support us, not the other way around! My goal is a shoe revolution where women in the future will look back and think we were crazy to ever accept unnecessary pain in our feet. Most heels have historically been designed and made by men, I think that explains a lot.

What does sania d’mina mean to you?

A majority of women blame their feet for not being able to enjoy high heels and with sania d’mina I want to change that whole narrative. I feel so proud each time I get to experience the reaction of women trying on my shoes. It is truly sad how much unnecessary pain women deal with and truly believe women deserve to be able to move freely. Also super happy to be able to offer different shaft widths and heights and I’ll always make sure we offer all shoes in any size for anyone.

What are your three favorite shoes from the collection?

Ah, I can’t. To me, it’s like asking about somebody’s favorite child. But I would of course say my first model, the ELENA slingback shoes in black suede, will always have a very special place in my heart. What I love the most is seeing women make collections of sania d’mina of their own as I don’t work the classic way of following the fashion calendar. I spend a lot of time on each design before I launch a new model to make sure they all stand the test of time, and then I play with colors, materials, and trends when I feel like it or when women around me request it. I love to co-design with my customers and many of the variations of the shoes are actually thanks to women who asked for them.

You have lips as the symbol for the company, tell us the story behind your symbol.

I’m always wearing red lipstick so I kissed a piece of paper and we created this symbol that is placed under the soles of all shoes with the idea of a little touch of my love for each pair is on the shoes.

In the ever-evolving fashion industry, how do you stay up-to-date with the latest trends and what is the inspiration behind the designs?

My main inspiration is that one pair of heels that every woman have in their closet that they’ve worn to pieces. I don’t care about creating a unique look, I care about creating shoes that are wearable and stay relevant. sania d’mina is a footwear brand founded on the principles of high-quality standards, handmade production and trend aware design. Each pair of shoes is crafted in Italy with a timeless touch to fit the personal style of different types of women across the world. Created with function in mind, each model within the collection is highly wearable and made to be your go-to pair of shoes. Think: modern classic meets vintage treasure.

What is the most important thing you've learned on this journey?

To persist until I succeed.

What are your future plans and aspirations for the growth and expansion of your shoe brand, and do you have any upcoming collections or collaborations in the pipeline that you can tell us about?

Definitely looking forward to seeing sania d’mina in every women on this planet’s hallway. I am always working on new shoes and instead of following deadlines that will kill any creative soul, I try to do it as musicians, launching news when they are ready to be presented to the world. Truly excited to share what’s to come. But each shoe goes through a lot of tests before I approve them.
